Meet the Producers

Jethro gif

Jethro Chaplin

Owner/engineer producer @ Mwnci Studios

Jethro has spent the past 25 years honing his skills, working with hundreds of bands and artists. He grew up in a close family with a strong tradition of music, and soon became fixated on the technical aspects. In the early 2000s he bought his first ADAT machine and, along with some borrowed microphones, frequented local pubs, guerilla-recording visiting bands and artists. This enthusiasm soon blossomed, inspiring him to open his own studio.

Mwnci is a purpose-built, residential recording studio, which Jethro largely built himself. Adding and modifying over 20 years. His very first booking was with David Prater, who worked with Santana, Dream Theatre, Firehouse, and Night Ranger. Since then, the studio has hosted hundreds of bands and artists including Naked and Famous, Paul Cook (Sex Pistols), Ginger Wildheart, Rhian Teasdale (Wet Leg), These Wicked Rivers, Florence Black, and has been block-booked by record companies like Warner Bros and Jagjaguar Records.

Jethro has also engineered and co-written production music which has been licensed across film and television.

Owen Gurry

Owen started his career as a session guitarist working with production companies and recording artists, eventually specialising in movie scores. Owen has contributed to over 20 feature films, including ‘Blade Runner 2049’ (music by Benjamin Wallfisch and Hans Zimmer), Gore Verbinski’s ‘A Cure For Wellness,’ and Ron Howard’s ‘Thirteen Lives’ among dozens more.

As a Composer, Owen has written and produced thousands of tracks across a wide range of styles for TV and other broadcasts that are in constant use around the world.

He is a voting member of the Recording Academy with credits on two Grammy-nominated records as composer, string arranger, and guitarist. Owen attended Berklee College of Music as a guitarist but left to pursue a career before returning as a composition major.

Owen continues to work as a session guitarist, composer, and arranger / orchestrator alongside his production role at Mwnci.

Studio History

Dolwilym Archaway at the entrance to Mwnci

Mwnci Studios sits on a site steeped in history. The studio and surrounding buildings are part of the Dolwilym estate nestled in the Taf Valley.

Dolwilym is a rambling woodland estate deep in the West Wales countryside that makes a perfect distraction-free environment for recording music. The Gwail-Y-Filiast cromlech is walking distance from the studio, and we’re only a few miles from the Preseli Hills where the stones from Stonehenge were quarried.

Mwnci Studios was founded in 2003. Purpose built, the studio has been open to the public for the last 22 years. The space has evolved in that time to incorporate four live areas for a broad range of acoustics and recording options.
